Compiz is one of the first compositing window managers for the X Window System that uses 3D graphics hardware to create fast compositing desktop effects for window management. The effects, such as a minimization effect and a cube workspace are implemented as loadable plugins. Because it conforms to the Inter-Client Communication Conventions Manual standard, Compiz can substitute for the default Metacity in GNOME or KWin in KDE.
The compiz-fusion packages found in Fedora 12 repositories are a few versions back but they’ll do their work. To install them type:
For a Gnome compiz install
#yum install ccsm emerald-themes compizconfig-backend-gconf fusion-icon-gtk \
emerald compiz-fusion compiz-fusion-gnome libcompizconfig compiz-gnome \
compiz-bcop compiz compizconfig-python compiz-fusion-extras \
compiz-fusion-extras-gnome
For a KDE compiz install
#yum install ccsm emerald-themes compizconfig-backend-kconfig fusion-icon-qt \
emerald compiz-fusion libcompizconfig compiz-bcop compiz compizconfig-python \
