As you know Elementary OS is a Linux distro which is Ubuntu based. Since most audio codecs such as MP3 others and are supported by default in Ubuntu same applies to Elementary OS. Hence you don’t know and you are trying to play these files it fails. Sometimes the music might prompt you install these codecs.
The solution to this problem is to install Ubuntu Restricted Extras. This package contains the plugins to make most multimedia formats play,.
Open Terminal and Run the command below:
$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Type Y and hit Enter to continue installation.
During installation you will be prompted to configure ttf-mscorefonts
Select YES to install or NO not to.
After installation, just fire up you favourite music player and you are good to go.
