VLC 2.0.8 Has Been Released! (Security Update)

VLC Media Player 2.0.8 has been released. This is a maintenance release that fixes some regressions in the 2.0.x branch. There are also numerous fixes for crashes, dangerous behaviors, ISDB-S tuning and some OS X issues were resolved.

According to the announcement: “With faster decoding on multi-core, GPU, and mobile hardware and the ability to open more formats, notably professional, HD and 10bits codecs, 2.0 was a major upgrade for VLC.”

Install and Upgrade to 2.0.8

For Ubuntu and Linux Mint:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily 
$ sudo apt-get update 
$ sudo apt-get install vlc

For other Linux distributions: Download and install the required package for your distribution from here.
